Grassland Ecosystems
نویسنده
چکیده
Glossary Convention on biological diversity The Convention was first enacted in June 1992, has been signed by many countries, and its objectives are the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources, including by appropriate access to genetic resources and by appropriate transfer of relevant technologies, taking into account all rights over those resources and to technologies, and by appropriate funding. Functional type A group of species that share morphological and physiological characteristics that result in a common ecological role. Global biodiversity assessment (GBA) The Global Biodiversity Assessment is an independent peer-reviewed analysis of the biological and social aspects of biodiversity

Grassland ecosystems in China: review of current knowledge and research advancement.
Grasslands are the dominant landscape in China, accounting for 40% of the national land area. Research concerning China's grassland ecosystems can be chronologically summarized into four periods: (i) pre-1950s, preliminary research and survey of grassland vegetation and plant species by Russians, Japanese and Western Europeans, (ii) 1950-1975, exploration and survey of vegetation, soils and top...
متن کاملEconomic valuation of plant diversity storage service provided by Brazilian rupestrian grassland ecosystems.
The rupestrian grassland ecosystems provide various goods and services to society and support a significant amount of biological diversity. Notably the rich plant diversity has high levels of endemism and a variety of uses among the local communities and general society. Despite the socio-ecological importance of these ecosystems, they are subjected to significant anthropogenic pressures. The g...
متن کاملRapid response of a grassland ecosystem to an experimental manipulation of a keystone rodent and domestic livestock.
Megaherbivores and small burrowing mammals commonly coexist and play important functional roles in grassland ecosystems worldwide. The interactive effects of these two functional groups of herbivores in shaping the structure and function of grassland ecosystems are poorly understood. In North America's central grasslands, domestic cattle (Bos taurus) have supplanted bison (Bison bison), and now...
متن کاملThe impact of human-environment interactions on the stability of forest-grassland mosaic ecosystems
Forest-grassland mosaic ecosystems can exhibit alternative stables states, whereby under the same environmental conditions, the ecosystem could equally well reside either in one state or another, depending on the initial conditions. We develop a mathematical model that couples a simplified forest-grassland mosaic model to a dynamic model of opinions about conservation priorities in a population...
متن کاملEcosystem Carbon and Nitrogen Accumulation after Grazing Exclusion in Semiarid Grassland
The grazing exclusion in degraded grassland has been extensively used to prevent the loss of grassland resources and to improve grassland services. The effects of grazing exclusion on C and N balance, however, have not been well addressed but are essential for assessing grassland C sinks, the sustainable use of grassland resources and the support of grassland services. To understand the respons...
متن کاملOldest Evidence of Toolmaking Hominins in a Grassland-Dominated Ecosystem
BACKGROUND Major biological and cultural innovations in late Pliocene hominin evolution are frequently linked to the spread or fluctuating presence of C(4) grass in African ecosystems. Whereas the deep sea record of global climatic change provides indirect evidence for an increase in C(4) vegetation with a shift towards a cooler, drier and more variable global climatic regime beginning approxim...
